George Dimopoulos’ breakout game gives NIU its best shot yet in Mountain West — Naperville Sports news

George Dimopoulos saw the linebackers show blitz and knew the ball was coming to him. Then he saw where the safety was.The NIU junior wide receiver and Crystal Lake Central graduate turned the 8-yard slant pass on third-and-8 from Tyger Dickens into a 61-yard touchdown. That drew the Huskies to within 31-24 on Saturday night at UNLV with 9:31 left in the third quarter. But neither team scored again, despite NIU driving into the red zone in the fourth quarter, and the Huskies left Vegas with their eighth straight loss of the year and 10th overall.“I knew it was going to be a big play pre-snap,” Dimopoulos said. “I took my slant angle over a little higher. I saw the safety, he was a little further to the other side of the field. I knew if it wasn’t a touchdown, it was going to be a pretty large gain.”The Huskies fell to 0-8 and 0-4 in their first year in the Mountain West. But for the first time in the new conference, they had a lead in a Mountain West game. They were up as much as 17-10
